Reflection Page

Reflection Post
I have developed as a writer in many ways, one being my ability to create an academic argument with the ability to reconsider your views on the topic. I have also learned how to make sentences flow properly and make my ideas reflect on my writing. Some lessons about writing that I can apply to my other class would be clarity. I have a problem with trying to fill my papers with just random words to get the desired length without properly providing the basic knowledge of what I am writing about. I feel that I can now have confidence and be able to successfully write a scholarly piece of work.
I liked all of the work that I did, but if I was to pick one it would be my last paper about steroids. The reason I liked this one the most was because it was a topic of my own and it was about something that I was interested in. One of the strategies I have used to overcome some of the challenges of writing this semester would be conjunctive adverbs. Not to sound silly, but I think that ever since I started using them my sentences have flowed nicely and has made my papers seem more interesting to read. My strengths in writing were very few, but I think that I can relate well to the audience. I try to give examples so that the audience can relate to my topic in some sort of way. The areas that I need to develop more as a writer would be the basics. I see that I have problems with punctuation. I still see in my writings today that I barely ever put commas in and when I do most times they are in the wrong place. I also think that I need to work on my flow of my paper. I’m so scatter brained that sometimes my sentences don’t transition well with the other sentences around it.
I have learned so much while in English 102 and I have enjoyed it. I don’t like English that much but this semester I did and I thank you Mr. Micer for that. I hope that my writing will continue to develop and get better in the future and I will become successful at writing. With all this said I think I deserve a B. The reason I said just a B and not an A is because I personally don’t think that my work was A worthy and I have work to do on my writing but I hope that one day in the future that it will be A work.

Claim and Evidence

Claim: I think that testing for steroid use should be done more often then what is being done to make sure that athletes do not have any oppertunities to take them.
Evidence: Drug tests for professional athletes along with students in athletic programs are only held once a year. This gives ample time for athletes in their off season to experiement with steroids. We know that this is what happens because of the newscast. The news is always has a story about a professional athlete who tested positive for steroids. Baseball, wrestling, and track are some of the many sports that steroids are abused. A question that I have, which I can't find the answer to. I want to know why the trainers let this happen. I know that some of them might not know that it is going on but I would think that a majority of them would know if their athletes are taking steroids. I would assume that they would let them do anything to be on top of the game and be the best. All in all it would help their paycheck if their players were taking steroids and winning every game. It is just a thought but it makes sence. Give me some feedback if you know anything on the subject.

More Information

I think that steroids shouldn't be used by athletes in sports because it will no longer be about the talent. If steroids were used it would just be about who can get their hands on the most steroids not on how talented someone is. The actual talented people would just be second best behind the steroid users. It just gives people that unfair advantage, people who have worked hard to get where they are, are passed up because someone took a bunch of steroids. Plus if steroids were used, with all the side effects of them we wouldn't be having these "jacked" athletes for long. Heart conditions, anger problems, and the addictiveness of the drugs would make their lives shorter than wanted. I just think that there are better ways to make youself better at a sport then swallowing some pills or injecting yourself with steroids.

Steroid Reflection

Wikipedia states that steroids are an organic compound that has a particular arangement of cylcloalkane. There are many different kinds of steroids such as testosterone, estradiol, dietary cholesterol. You might be thinking that these things are already in your body but the NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) says that when taking steroids you put and overload of these coupounds into your body which can have a negative impact on your body and mind. Given the obvious negative impacts on the body, one of the major mental ones is addiction. NIDA states that in animal research has concluded that animals will self-administer steroids when given the oppertunity.

Personal Bio

My name is Jonathon Chermak and I am from Valparaiso Indiana. I was born in Griffith Indiana, but moved to Morgan Township in Valpo when I was twelve for a better school. I am six foot four and I love to play sports. As far back as I can remember I have been doing some sort of sport. I played basketball, track, soccer, baseball, and golf in High school. I am currently enrolled in Purdue North Central but after my first year I am planning on transfering to Valparaiso University to run track. My major I am going for is sports athletic training but I am thinking about changing it to something in business. I want to find out more information on why steroids are so frowned apon. The reason why I am so interested in this topic is because sports has always been such a big part of my life and steroids has been a big part of many sports.
